TO ENTER THESE COUNTRIES - You will need either Proof
of Citizenship or a - Aruba - A valid U.S. passport, or an U.S. birth certificate (original or a certified copy) or Certificate of Naturalization accompanied by valid photo identification, must be presented. While a passport is not mandatory, it is recommended, since it is more readily recognized as positive proof of U.S. citizenship. No visa is required for stays of up to three months, but tourists may be asked to show onward/return tickets or proof of sufficient funds for their stay. The length of stay actually authorized may be based on the ability to show sufficient funds. - Costa Rica -Effective December 9, 2003, the Government of Costa Rica will require that all U.S. citizens present passports valid for at least ninety days in order to enter Costa Rica. The Government of Costa Rica has advised that, until that date, U.S. citizens will be permitted to enter Costa Rica upon presentation of a photo identification card/driver's license or state I.D. card issued by a state’s department of motor vehicles (DMV), along with an original or certified copy of the birth certificate. The State Department strongly recommends that every U.S. citizen travel on a valid U.S. passport even though the country of destination may require lesser documentation. Entry procedures in Costa Rica are currently in flux, and some U.S. citizens who have tried to enter Costa Rica without valid passports have been denied entry and returned to the United States. - Mexico - The Government of Mexico requires that all U.S. citizens present proof of citizenship and photo identification for entry into Mexico. An U.S. passport is recommended, but other U.S. citizenship documents such as a certified copy of an U.S. birth certificate, a Naturalization Certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Citizenship are acceptable. U.S. citizens boarding flights to Mexico should be prepared to present one of these documents as proof of U.S. citizenship, along with photo identification. Driver's permits, voter registration cards, affidavits and similar documents are not sufficient to prove citizenship for readmission into the United States. - Dominican Republic - The U.S. Embassy in the Dominican
Republic strongly recommends that all U.S. citizens traveling to the Dominican
Republic do so on a valid U.S. passport. Although Dominican law technically
allows U.S. citizens to enter the country on other proof of U.S. citizenship
(U.S. birth certificate, Naturalization Certificate, etc.) along with
a photo ID, numerous U.S. travelers have been prohibited from departing
the Dominican Republic on such documents. In these cases, Dominican Immigration
has required the travelers to obtain an U.S. passport from the U.S. Embassy
in Santo Domingo - a process that may delay the traveler's return to the
United States. TO DIVE: You will need proof of scuba certification.
